Toy Story Land

Hey howdy hey! I recently got to experience the brand new Toy Story Land a few days after it opened and it was pretty amazing. I had the goofiest grin on my face the entire time because I’ve always loved the Toy Story movies and characters.  I pretty much grew up along with Andy, and everything was just done so perfectly.

THEMING

The theming is my favorite part of this new land. Guests are shrunk down to the size of a toy and are placed right in the middle of Andy’s backyard. The details everywhere are incredible! It was crowded, but hey, it was still opening week so that’s to be expected.

Every single detail was thought out, even down to the plants.  These plants look like giant blades of grass and you can even spot some of Andy’s giant footprints, all to help create the illusion that guests are toy-sized like Woody and the gang.

Buzz, Woody, and Jessie all had meet and greets and the Toy Soldiers were out marching around entertaining guests.  This is definitely a place that no matter how many times you visit, you will probably always discover something new.

ATTRACTIONS

There are three rides in Toy Story Land: Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania.

Slinky Dog Dash is the new hyped ride in WDW, and for good reason. It’s a kiddie coaster, so it doesn’t have steep drops and high speeds, but still super fun for adults too! The wait time was posted as 65 minutes, but it only took 50, and for it being opening week, that didn’t seem bad at all (even though I’ve gotten spoiled having an annual pass and rarely get in lines longer than 20 minutes haha but this was worth it).  Andy was the Imagineer for this ride. He took a roller coaster kit called Dash & Dodge Mega Coaster Kit and modified it by adding his Slinky Dog toy as the ride car to make it Slinky Dog Dash. The instructions for this build-your-own roller coaster kit and Andy’s top secret plans, drawn with crayons, for Slinky Dog Dash are displayed all over the queue.  The structures are even built using several boxes from Andy’s toys and board games.

Alien Swirling Saucers was a standout for me. It whips you around more than it looks. I laughed the ENTIRE time. The green aliens talking and the funky versions of classic Toy Story songs are just too good. If you’ve been to Disney California Adventure, this ride is similar to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, which I am a huge fan of. I am so excited that WDW now has a similar style ride.

Toy Story Mania already existed, as Toy Story Midway Mania, but has an all new adorable entrance (I mean, not Tokyo DisneySea cute, but still really cute). The entrance was moved to the back of the building so it is accessible inside of Toy Story Land. The ride itself is the same great ride as always.

Oh, and if you’re looking for the new “Instagram famous” Popsicle Wall, you’ll pass right by it on your way out of Toy Story Mania’s ride exit.

FOOD

Woody’s Lunch Box is the new restaurant in Toy Story Land. I got to try a few different items from this quick service restaurant and everything exceeded my expectations. Plus, they have Texas Pete hot sauce in their condiment station, which is a win for me (I put hot sauce on EVERYTHING). Over the course of a couple days, I tried the BBQ Brisket Melt, the Totchos, a bite of my sister’s Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich, and the Mystic Portal Punch. Portions were big enough and everything was so tasty! I’m hoping to try the Grown-Up’s Lemonade and Lunch Box Tarts next visit. They’ve already taken the Monte Cristo off the menu, so hopefully this doesn’t mean they’ll be removing any of the other items anytime soon. They have root beer floats on the menu, and rumor has it, they will make a cold brew coffee float for you if you ask. Next time, we will put that rumor to the test.

MERCHANDISE

I wasn’t planning on buying any merch from Toy Story Land, except for the Alien cup (that you can get with the Mystic Portal Punch at Woody’s Lunch Box) as a surprise for Kevin. BUT I ended up walking away with the Slinky Dog headband, thanks to the influence of both my sister telling me I ‘needed’ it and the 22oz Blue Moon from Woody’s Lunch Box đŸ˜‚. They also had Green Alien headbands, a Slinky Dog toy, some pins, hats, and a few other items. They have already added more merchandise than when I was there just a week ago.

We’ve been so excited for the land to open, and it was a very much needed addition to Hollywood Studios since they’re changing so much and have so many ride closures right now. It lived up to my expectations, and I can’t wait to experience it again, and with Kevin this time. The biggest drawback is that there is very little shade, and during the hot and rainy Florida summer months, there is nowhere to hide from the weather. But hopefully that is something they change along the way as more and more guests get to experience it.

We can definitely see ourselves spending a lot of time here on future Disney trips! We’ve heard its amazing at night so we are looking forward to experiencing it soon.
