Mickey: The True Original Exhibition in NYC

To celebrate 90 years of Mickey Mouse, a pop-up art exhibit is being held in New York City until February 10. We took a day trip to NYC with our friend, Stefanie from @hubgrassandchill, to visit the exhibit before it ended. We definitely took advantage of all the amazing photo ops.

Here’s a look at our favorite pieces of art, broken down room by room, from this 16,000 square foot exhibit.

HELLO MICKEY!

This neon-filled room also featured the iconic Steamboat Willie boat (with a moving steering wheel)!

ICONIC DESIGN

IT’S BLACK AND WHITE

This room featured a PLANE CRAZY corner with a TV playing clips from the animated short and we were so so so excited!

There were also a few photo opportunities with classic black and white Mickey + Minnie.

BURST INTO COLOR

This entire wall-length crocheted piece is inspired by the first color Mickey short, “The Band Concert” (1935), and the artist crocheted the backdrop blindfolded!

SORCERER’S WAY

MICKEY MOUSE CLUB

This room had free samples of Ample Hills Creamery ice cream and Mickey Mouse Club clips playing in the background!

ORIGINAL MUSE

THE COLLECTION

This room showcased tons of Mickey memorabilia from over the years, including unique collaborations with Disney and different iconic brands. This wall with different images of Mickey through the years was our favorite part.

There were over 30 hidden Mickeys to find throughout the exhibit! One can be seen here on Mickey’s shorts.

Inside “The Collection” room, there is a smaller room where you can play “Mickey’s Game Show Live Presented by Google Home.” Four players and a facilitator gather around the Google Home and play a demo version of the game. There were some little surprises that had us laughing and all four contestants were given a little prize for playing! If you have a Google Home, make sure to play the full version at home by saying “Hey Google, play Mickey’s Game Show.”

MICKEY’S MAKER SHOP

At the end of the exhibit, there is a little shop and more photo ops. They even embroidered our hats for free!

We spent over two hours inside the exhibit and had the best time! This exhibit only runs until February 10th so if you have the chance to visit before it ends, we highly recommend it! There are rumors floating around that the exhibit will travel after it ends in NYC, so keep an eye out to see if it comes to a city near you!
